Dear Customers,

Port of Durban and Richards bay experienced inclement weather (gale force winds and heavy rain) on 10th oct 2017. The inclement weather was so severe that Transnet Port Authority had to cancel all shipping movements and all TPT/Container terminals had to suspend full range of cargo operations/services.

As per TNPA, Transnet marine services team  and tugboats had to assist with several emergencies. These include the grounding of 3 vessels in the Port of Durban. Other vessel had broken mooring lines were drifting in the channel raising huge risk to other vessel in the port.

Transnet port  terminals have invoked the provisions of the force majeure for handling potential cargo claim.

Port Authorities are currently determining  the damage to port infrastructure. However, there were no injuries had been reported inside the TPT terminals.

As of this update (11.10;.2017 – 11:15 hrs) only RO RO terminal is operating. No shipping movement is being carried out and we are awaiting further update from container terminal.
